About CALÇOTS FRESCOS I CUITS
Joan born in Vila-rodona (Tarragona), is a descendant of several generations of farmers dedicated to the cultivation of vineyards, olive trees, fruits, vegetables, and of course, the highly prized calçot.
It was around 1972 when his father, Josep, began to grow calçot on a larger scale due to the demand for this product in the most renowned restaurants in the towns near Vila-rodona.
Currently his second son Jordi is already beginning to take over the administration and cultivation of the farms, thus continuing this saga of farmers.
What do CALÇOTS FRESCOS I CUITS do?
While we wait for the calçot onion seedling to grow and give us the final onions from which the calçots will come out, we take the opportunity to carry out other work on our land, since the cultivation of calçot takes approximately one year from when the seedling is planted until that the calçots are collected. Other products that we sell ourselves, at our stop, from the nave dels pagesos of the Mercat del Camp in La Canonja (Tarragona), as we have already said, are vegetables, which we begin to collect and sell in the month of June approximately. This year we have grown green beans, tomatoes, potatoes, aubergines, peppers, zucchini and cucumbers.
Now we are planting the peas to be able to offer another product to our customers.
It has not been one of the best years due to the great drought that has occurred throughout the territory, but it has been of quality so that our regular buyers have been satisfied.
