Types of Tequila, because not all are the same!

Tequila is a drink with a long tradition. It is one of the most consumed distillates in America, but its fame has spread practically throughout the world. To learn a little more, today we are going to take a look at the different types and kinds of tequila that exist.

Types of Tequila: for preparation

Tequila can essentially be divided into There are two types of categories: "Noble Tequila", also called "Pure Tequila" or "100% Agave", and "Mixed Tequila". "Pure or noble tequila" has an important characteristic: all the sugars it contains come from the agave plant, which are then transformed into alcohol. “Mixed tequila,” as its name indicates, other types of sugars are added. In 1995 it was established That the legal limit of sugar contained in a "mixed tequila" should be 60%. It is evident, therefore, that pure tequila is more valuable, although both can hold the Tequila Designation of Origin.

Types of Tequila: due to aging

Perhaps tequila is more ;s known by its age than by a specific type:

Silver or white tequila (Silver)

This type of tequila is bottled immediately after its preparation. Tequila is usually left to rest in oak barrels for only a few hours or at most a couple of days (in any case, less than a week). That is why the flavor of this tequila is more neutral and pure, as it is usually classified. Blanco tequila has an alcohol content that ranges from a minimum of 35 degrees to a maximum of 55 degrees (55% vol or, as they write in Mexico, GL).< /p>

It has a very soft golden color, as does its flavor, which, in addition to being softer than white tequila, also has a slight woody aftertaste. The alcohol content is identical to that of white tequila: minimum 35 degrees, maximum 55 (GL).

Añejo Tequila

This tequila is aged for at least one year (generally 1 to 3 years), is dark amber in color and has a stronger flavor than other tequilas.

Gold or young tequila (Gold)

This tequila is the product of the mix of white and reposado tequila. It is one of the most popular tequilas due to its balanced flavor and golden color.

Extra añejo tequila. This category is in force since 2006 and is characterized by aging for at least 3 years. Of course, it is also one of the most expensive.
